Did you know that the longest experiment in the world is the measurement of bitumen viscosity? Known as the “Pitch drop experiment”, this experiment has started in 1927 by Thomas Parnell of the University of Queensland. At room temperature, bitumen flows at a very low rate, taking several years to form a single drop. From 1927 to 2000, only the eighth drop of bitumen has fallen, which means the bitumen has a viscosity of approximately 230 billion times that of water. This #experiment is recorded in #Guinness World Records as the ‘world’s longest continuously running laboratory experiment.
