    India Bitumen Price

The bitumen production process is costly in India since this country has no oil to produce vacuum bottoms as the raw material of bitumen.

Do you know how bitumen is produced in the refinery? Read the bitumen production process.

Many Indian importers import bitumen mostly from the Middle East and Singapore, and sell it as stock.

The 3 main refineries of India are IOCL, BPCL, and HPCL. Each of these refineries announces its own bitumen prices in India and has many branches in different parts of this country.

    General Description of Indian Refineries

    IOCL

IOCL is the 86th biggest company in the world. This company has 49% of the oil market share, 31% of refinement capacity, and 67% of the capacity of the Indian oil industry, all projects on construction and maintenance of the country’s pipeline.

    HPCL

HPCL is the second refinery in India. It has the second-largest share of product pipelines in India with a pipeline network of more than 3370 km for transportation of petroleum products and a vast marketing network consisting of 14 Zonal offices in major cities.

    BPCL

This company is headquartered in Mumbai. The refinery has two branches in Kochi and Mumbai. 54% of BPCL’s shares are owned by the Government of India as of September 2018.

    Bitumen Prices of Indian Refineries

Generally, each refinery has its own pricing method. IOCL uses a geographical pricing model. This means the prices are categorized by geographic regions such as metro cities, state capitals, and national capital regions.

The government sets and regulates the prices of products due to the standards of each state.

The pricing decisions are taken after considering the taxes and subsidies.

Factors Affecting the Bitumen Price in India

Generally, bitumen price in India is dependent on the same set of factors that affect crude oil prices. Also, some factors that affect the bitumen price in India are as below:

    • Supply and demand for bitumen
    • Internal and external political issues
    • High season demand from September to end of the May
    • Low season demand from June to September
    • International prices
    • Disruption in logistics like war, delayed crude oil  imports

The Relation Between Infinity Galaxy and Indian Refineries

India has a high bitumen consumption. All its refineries together supply about 40% of India’s bitumen consumption and the rest must be imported. Most bitumen imported into India is from the Middle East, and the remaining bitumen is imported from Singapore.

The most important thing that importers are eager to know is what the best price is, when the best time to import the bitumen is and what grade they should import. They are interested in knowing the suitable time and the appropriate bitumen grades to import. In this way, at least when they pay the customs and GST fees, they do not lose anything and their prices can compete with the prices of the domestic Indian producers.

Thus, the business of importing bitumen in India has become a business intelligence that needs to have daily information about the market, suppliers, and conditions of manufacturers in India.

Infinity Galaxy is constantly checking crude oil prices, regional conditions and political tensions, communicating with Indian main refineries and suppliers, and reviewing India’s domestic news. This company is not just an exporter, it is the role player in the market and provides market analysis to its customers when to buy.

The Most in-Demand Bitumen Grades in India

The highly demanded bitumen grades in India are paving bitumen grades. This includes penetration grade bitumen specially 60/70 and 80/100 and viscosity grades such as VG10, VG30 and VG40. Also, different grades of oxidized bitumen include 115/15 and 85/25, polymer modified bitumen, and bitumen emulsion are popular in the Indian market.

Due to the regulation of the MINISTRY OF ROAD TRANSPORT & HIGHWAYS section of India GOVERNMENT, the use of a specific type of paving bitumen and bitumen in the construction of flexible pavements in the national highways was approved.

As such, following have been decided to be used in the construction of National Highways of India:

    • In dense bituminous macadam (DBM) or bituminous macadam (BM) layer, only VG-40 Grade of bitumen shall be used for the National Highways.
    • In bituminous concrete only modified bitumen (using polymer/ crumbed rubber/ natural rubber) or VG 40 grade of bitumen has to be used.

The growth in road construction development activities across the country led to a large share of paving grades bitumen in 2018.

In the country, emulsions are in high demand because projects such as Bharatmala, numerous national highways, and economic corridors are being constructed in various states.

Programmes sponsored by Government of India for construction of roads in the countryside, such as Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and improvement, maintenance, and repair work of existing local roads, national highways, and expressways are increasing demand for bitumen across India; thereby, driving the India bitumen market growth.
