CRS 1 or cationic rapid setting type of bitumen emulsion is a type of liquid bitumen that has a low viscosity. It contains about 40% aqueous solution and 60% bitumen. The ingredients of the aqueous solution include water, an emulsifier, and additives.
The fine drops of bitumen are dispersed in water by a cationic emulsifier, which makes bitumen drops positively charged. For this reason, CRS-1 is classified as a cationic bitumen emulsion.
CRS 1 has a rapid setting property. It means that after about 2 hours of applying bitumen to the ground, it dries. For this reason, CRS-1 is widely used in tack coat for road construction.
The HS Code of Bitumen Emulsion CRS-1 is 27150090 and it can be produced and evaluated based on the tips of the ASTM D 2397M-13 standard.

CRS-1 Application
The main application of CRS-1 is in road construction. It is used as a coat.
In tack coat application, CRS-1 is sprayed on the soil surface before asphalt is poured on the road.
This thin layer of emulsion bitumen is very suitable for clay and sand soils. These types of soils have a negative electric charge. On the other hand, CRS-1 has positive fine drops of bitumen. As a result, CRS-1 can absorb soil particles and maintain them.
